Issue No. 4 – UEA Symposium Downtowns

By: Eliza Gray 09.11.2025

On May 1st, 2025, the Urban Experience Alliance symposium hosted a day of talks and panels, conducted by Canada’s leading urban placemakers as they address the state of our downtowns.

Speakers identified challenges facing our downtowns and how they are using their unique perspectives and experience to tackle them. They shared thought-provoking case studies: from revitalizing indigenous knowledge through the Cultural Ribbon in Vancouver to leveraging real-time market data and analytics to shape Toronto's urban landscape. The Urban Experience Alliance also revealed UEA Project Labs, which provides opportunities for  UEA members to take action through funded seed projects: experiments, prototypes, and pilots to apply and validate ideas and expand impact across communities.

The symposium closed with a reception at Nemesis’ Great Northern Way location, where our guests enjoyed a culinary collaboration between Nemesis Coffee and Michelin-recommended restaurant, PiDGiN.
